Image Gallery: Library Spring Book Sale Kicks Off with Royal Celebration

There was a royal celebration at the Burlington Public Library yesterday as the Friends of the Library Spring Book Sale kicked off in the style of Westminster Abbey.

The first day of the book sale was "Royal Wedding" day. People were invited to wear a tiara, veil or bow tie to receive a free book in honor of Prince William and Catherine Middleton's nuptial ceremony that took place in London yesterday. The first 100 shoppers were also invited to partake in Royal Wedding cupcakes.

At around 1 p.m. there was a good crowd of people pursuing the many books that had been donated to help fund library programs with this twice-annual fundraiser.

"We've had a great turnout," said Rosalyn Minassian, a member of the library board of directors and liaison to the Friends of the Burlington Public Library. "It's been fabulous. And people have been excited to celebrate the Royal Wedding."

Minassian was also happy about the quality of books the library was able to offer customers of the book sale. She said most of the books were provided by donations from the public and that supporters of the library had donated some good material. Most books cost $1. Children's paperbacks are 2 for $1. All films, music CDs and audiobooks are $1.

"The quality of the books people donated is incredible," she said. "The books are in good condition and we have many best-sellers and popular books."

The book sale will continue through the weekend. The sale is open today from 10:15 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. and tomorrow (Sunday) from 1:15 to 4 p.m. Sunday is also "Buy a Bag" day, where people can fill a bag with books and pay what they think it is worth, with a $3 minimum.

Sunday will also be the day the library raffles off a few gift baskets, including a Royal Wedding basket. There is also a raffle for a "Magic" Bag donated by Wheelock Family Theatre and a basket supplied by Trader Joe's .

Fiends Members receive discounts throughout the 3-day sale. Buy 3 books and get one free! If you're not a member or if your membership has lapsed, you may register at the door. $7 for seniors, $10 for individuals. All proceeds go to the Friends of the Burlington Public Library, who fund museum passes, programs for children and adults and computer equipment for the public to use.
